Making of the Snow Monkey - ericlorenzo
I'd wanted to try a fixed gear bike off road for a while; I'd read that the extra feedback about traction conditions at the rear wheel would be useful when riding in snow and ice, and the simple drivetrain should be more reliable in snowy conditions -- no delicate moving parts to get clogged up with ice.

Besides that, I didn't have all the parts I'd need to put on a rear brake, so running fixed gave me some means of braking the back wheel.
